you know that feeling you get when you've been trudging around the woods and you finally come to a clearing and you're glad to be out but you don't really know what to do next? that's how i feel now! (this was a pretty common occurrence for me as a kid) So I've finished a good amount of work but i need to keep going, and even though i know what to do i still have this feeling or uncertainty. I guess it can't be helped!
I got the last of my promos! This batch came out a bit better than the last one, but again, only i can see the errors.

Im still working on sketches for my Grimes idea, but in between that and work I've been drawing large clouds. It's sort of therapeutic in a way since they are so abstract in shape but I diligently work from reference material.


I think i might turn these into paintings, but i want to add one more element. maybe flowers or people. we will see!

Hey guys!
I have a brand new illustration in the latest issue of Black Book magazine! The piece accompanies an article on the band Animal Collective and their new album coming out soon. They also have a fun little side column about other bands out there with animals in their name. The art direction from the lovely Lorenna Gomez-Sanchez was to have a few of the guys from AC surrounded by of course, animals, specifically ones that have bands named after featured in the column. The was perfect for me, I love Animal Collective, and a lot of the other bands mentioned. Plus I love drawing animals and they had no problem with me adding odd elements like masks. Here are a few of the original sketches

Hello!
My first set of promo postcards are in! They look pretty good (even though i can find a few printing mistakes, I'm not going to harp on them). And now it time to order the next set. If you'd like one post your address below, hopefully I will still have plenty of stamps.
Here is another page from my sketch book, i love drawing like this but I've learned I can't really force it out. The forces one look terrible and emotionless. I guess they have to just come out naturally.

I'm trying to take on some ambitious projects currently, so hopefully i can keep the steam going for them. One project (and this is something ive been wanting to for years) is to illustrate an entire album. I would make a piece for each track, creating a short narrative. I think Grimes album "Visions" is a good starting ground. I'd do a beach boys album but I would probably get too nervous and scrape it half way through! Maybe some day if this goes according to plan.

hey everyone!
oh my god why is it so humid outside? while it is terrible to be outside this weather is great for my paints. oh well.
here is a new album cover i made for the band Snagwing. I like making these drawings a lot, and I think some of the enjoyment comes from the idea of it representing music.

and hey, its promo season. I need to start sending out promo cards and network more to get more work. Here's a start! (the one to the right is me messing around afterwards)

hey everyone!
it's summer and hot as hell. and since it's so damn hot I've been staying inside making a lot of new illustrations.

This is a wedding gift I made for a friend who just got married. The birds are golden finches which represent Christ (the couple are religious) and the flowers are Spathodea's, the only flower in its genus. I want to learn more about flowers and birds, mostly so i can tell the difference when i see either or.

hey everyone!
So i just realized that a lot of people have left some really wonderful comments on my post over the past, oh i don't know, FOUR YEARS. i just found for the first time most of them. I apologize for not replying! I'm terrible about checking the comments, plus i don't get notifications about them. i will try to be better in the future, and thank you to everyone following and thank you for all the awesome comments!
so i am finally wrapping a number of projects. here is (hopefully) a final illustration from the childrens book i'm working on.
also, here is a photo of a portrait i just finished for a friend. Its 16' x 20' so i cant really scan it, so here is a not that great photo of it. it was a lot of fun painting to the scale, but also very challenging.
